If you are a brand new pet owner you may not be sure how to adequately take care of your new pet. Taking good care of your pet has a lot of different aspects attached to it, and there can be a lot to learn at first. Everything from your pet’s diet, grooming habits, and even health care plans can be included in learning how to properly care for your pet. In this article we’ll take a look at several basic pet care tips you can use to help make sure your pet gets the best care you can possibly give them.

One of the first and most important basic pet care tips is looking after your pet’s diet. There are literally hundreds of different name brands, flavors, and kinds of food available for your pet to eat. It’s important that you check into each of the companies and check to make sure they haven’t recently had any kind of recall. Next, you’ll want to try and find the healthiest type of food your dog can eat. This can be difficult with so many choices, so be prepared to read a lot of labels.

Another aspect of keeping a close eye on your pet’s diet is making sure you watch for obesity in your animals. It is not healthy at all for your pet to be overweight and it can even shorten your pet’s life drastically. Weight gain is typical in pets as they get older so especially watch for obesity if your pet is starting to get up in age. Make sure to keep pet treats to a bare minimum and to not over do it, as this is a big factor in dog’s who become overweight. Most people already know not to give a dog or cat chocolate, but it’s good to be reminded. Chocolate can actually poison your animal and kill it.

Another of the basic pet care tips you need to know involves grooming. Grooming your family pet should be done on a regular basis and in some cases it should be done on a daily basis. Get a specially designed pet comb to help get rid of your pet’s loose hair and to help distribute the oil in your pet’s fur coat. This will make their coat shiny and it will look beautiful. Get a high quality pet shampoo to wash your pet in and also make sure to put to use any flea treatments that may help get rid of your dog’s flea problem.

If you don’t plan on using your pet to breed other litters of animals then you need to have that pet spayed or neutered. Not only does this prevent you having a ton of puppies to try and give away, it is also very healthy for your pet. In most cases it helps reduce the chances of prostate cancer in male animals and breast cancer in female animals. Many people who let their cat or dog have a lot of puppies or kittens end up creating a big stray pet problem, in which these animals end up with no loving homes and in shelters.

Exercising is another basic pet care tips must. Exercise helps to keep your dog from being overweight and unhealthy. It is also a great way for you to bond with your pet. Exercising also allows your dog to socialize with other dogs and will in general improve your dog’s over all attitude and behavior.

Your pet deserves your best care and attention for all the love and joy he or she brings to your life. Make sure you do your best to make sure your dog’s health needs and grooming needs are a top priority for you so that your dog will live a long and healthy life.

The decision to bring a pet into your home for you and your family should not be taken lightly. A pet will become a member of your family and not just a fixture in your home. Pets are not meant to come and go, but to remain as part of your home for years to come. Unfortunately for some, pets are disposable items that will be moved if they are an inconvenience. This should be avoided since unstable homes can make unstable pets.

A checklist for pet care can be an essential tool when you first bring home your new pet. For many people, a new pet is their first experience at being a full-time pet parent, and for those this list will be most useful. Preparing yourself, your home, and your pet for those first few months in a new environment will make the change go gracefully and help everyone adjust easily.

1. The first thing you want to be sure of is that your pet has all of their vaccinations up to date. It is important that your new pet is protected from such outside irritants as fleas, tics, ringworm, or many other ailments such as distemper or rabies. The health of your pet is one of the most important aspects of ongoing care. Wellness exams each year are important for your pet. A veterinarian will perform a thorough exam on your pet looking at such things as their vital signs, ears, eyes, mouth, the heart and lungs, as well as the reproductive organs and their skin. This step is a very important preventative measure for your pet each year.

2. Getting your home ready for your new pet can be a big task, but one that is essential for the big day that your new friend comes home. If it is a small caged animal, a small space that is quiet is fine for them to be used to their surroundings. You will not want to take your new friend out just yet, but let them get used to the sounds and smells of their new home before you start introducing them outside of their immediate surroundings. If it is a larger, self-sufficient animal such as a cat or dog, you will want to make sure that they have their own space, a blanket or pet bed for retreating to, out of the way in case they are too overwhelmed at the beginning.

3. Regular physical routine is essential for any pet. This is their exercise routine since they are not like us and do activity regularly without the help of us. Larger pets such as dogs must be walked every day, smaller animals like cats, ferrets, guinea pigs, and birds can be trained to play with anyone in the family. Toys such as balls, bells, tubes, or even apparatuses are useful in helping your pet achieve physical activity during the day while you are away or even you interacting with them while they are exploring.

If you follow some simple guidelines, your new pet is sure to adapt to his new family in no time at all. Regular checkups, physical activity and preventative measures can not only make your pet more comfortable, but also extend the life of your pet. A pet is an investment so you will want to be sure to take care of him for the benefit of everyone.

In these tough economic times, you would think that Fluffy, Fido and Swimey…you know, your little fish…would be not so well taken care of, right? Oh, so wrong. In fact, trends have it that in spite of tough times, our furry friends are even more pampered than ever. This goes to the very nature of an In-Home Pet Care Business.

If most are anything like me when it comes to their pets, the last thing they want is for that pet to be housed in a cage for whatever the duration of your time away is. In fact, I have found many vet clinics are becoming more like a day care for your pets where they actually have the pets out of the cage during their time there. Those are not as plentiful as one might think, hence the In-Home Pet Care Business.

But business being what it is there are some basics that you have to have to enter such a field, save for your love of animals. Hopefully, that is a given.

First and foremost, you must know the mindset of your potential client. I put this first because that will assist you in the other elements of setting up your Pet Care business. Knowing your client will help you to better care for their Pet. To do this, take a trip to a Dog Park or even a Dog show, and watch how people are around their Pets. It will amaze you all that you probably didn’t know.

Second, begin to set up your business. Set up a basic office setup, more than likely from home at the beginning. Establish a Marketing Plan to get the word out about who you are and what you will do for the client and their owners. A rough estimate of fees, which may require some study of other similar businesses. Always take into account your area and what the market will bear. As you get more and more clients, the “Business” aspect will grow, so be prepared to hire when needed and don’t fall into a “I can do it all my self” trap.

Third, start getting interviews for clients. Go everywhere and talk to anyone who will listen with an “Elevator Speech” about your Business. An “Elevator Speech” is that quick summary of your business that is direct and to the point that you could tell someone while riding in an elevator, even though no one likes to talk and just looks straight ahead.

Those are the basics, and yes, very simplified. Do your homework about your clients, the pets. Get your basic office set up with the standard office needs, set a marketing plan and then go out and do it.

Action begets action and your In-Home Pet Care Business is yours to behold. Most of all, have fun with it. It is your love of animals that brought you here, so enjoy.

The time has changed and the leaves have fallen off the trees. It is the time of year to get ready for winter. In a large part of the country snow will be on ground soon and the temperatures will get below freezing. Your dog and cat know it is winter. They get their winter coat and react to the shorter daylight the same as us. Some dog owners leave their pet out for exteneded periods of time thinking that animals are adapted to living outdoors. That is not the case with domesticated pets. They are used to living indoors just as much as we are. I would like to give you a few pointers for winter pet care.

1. A good idea for winter care for your pet would be to take them to your veternarian before winter really sets in. Make sure your pet is in good health. Older dogs, like older humans, tend to get sick more easily in the winter. If your pet have arthritis or diabetes or heart problems make sure he gets a good check up.

2. If it is cold outside make sure you watch your dog and cat carefully. A good idea would be to stay outside with them. When you get cold then chances are your dog is cold too. That would be a good sign to take him back inside.

3. Watch for hazards in the winter. If you live near ponds or lakes keep your dog away from the ice. You never know what the thickness of the ice is. If your dog would happen to fall in he would have a hard time getting out. I would say if are near water stay outside with him. If you live near woods or a forest the snow can cover up hazards the dog can’t see, like sticks or rocks or trash.

4. Keep an eye out for antifreeze. Dogs like the smell and will drink it if they find some. Antifree is extremely poisonous and will kill your dog. If you need to change your antifreeze make sure your clean up any spills. Dogs that don’t have access to clean unfrozen water will drink whatever they can find. This includes gutter water which can contain antifreeze, oil, or other household hazardous waste.

5. If your dog needs to be kept outdoors for any length of time make sure they have a nice warm shelter. A nice sturdy doghouse would be a good idea. Make sure they have a nice warm dog bed and fresh unfrozen water. That is very important. Your dog can get dehydrated in the winter. Please check his water bowl before going off to work or shopping. If you put a wrapped hot water bottle in their shelter it will keep it cozy.

6.Rock salt and deicer can very hard on your dogs pads. When they come in the house make sure that you wipe off their pads with a warm cloth. This is important as they may try and lick their paws and they may become very ill.

7. Be particularly gentle with older or elderly dogs. Their arthritis can get worse in the winter. Stay close with them when they are going down stairs as they may slip and fall. They may be a bit more awkward and uneasy when they are outside. In the winter they may need help getting up on their favorite couch or chair. Make sure they have a nice cozy bed. A heated dog bed would be a great idea. You may have trouble getting them out of bed in the morning.

8.If you have a cat that goes outside be careful with starting your vehicle as cats like to curl up in warm engines. A good thing to do is bang on the hood of your vehicle so any cats hidden there will jump out. If a cat is on your engine and you start it, the cat will be injured or killed.

9.A good idea if you can get your dog to let you do this put a warm little sweater on them. Little paws booties will also help keep their little paws warm.

Take good care of your pet thiis winter and they will be there to keep you company for many winters to come.

Our pets need the best care we can give. Their lives depend on us. Here are some pet care tips you can use with your animal friends.

Since dogs are the most common house pet, let us start with them. When it comes to dog pet care you should consider comfort and amusement. Dogs love to play and they love to run. So before you even decide to buy a dog you should take into consideration the place where you and your dog can play. They are a very social animal that’s why if possible you should provide a place for them to have fun with you and your family. Dogs also like comfort, so as the owner you should provide a comfortable space for them to sleep and relax. When it comes to feeding your dog you have two options. One, is you can buy dog foods available in the market. Most dog foods already include all the daily vitamins that the dog will need. Second option is to feed him real food from your home. Dogs as we all know love to chew on chicken bones, but that shouldn’t be the only thing you give them. You can also add chicken meat, vegetables and boiled rice. You should also ask your veterinarian regarding the vitamins or supplements that your dog needs. Just like humans they also have daily requirements of calcium, and other vitamins. Lastly, for dogs and all other animals vaccination is needed. This is to prevent them to be able to protect them from disease. Better to do this while they are still young. Just like humans they can also get sick. Some of the most common sickness among dogs are the following: Vomiting and diarrhea, blood in urine and itching and scratching due to skin infection. These can all be prevented if they are properly given vaccines.

Another common house pet are fishes. Pet care for fishes is very meticulous. Before you even bring home your fish you should be able to prepare the aquarium that the fish will be living in. The water inside the aquarium should be treated. You should put water inside the tank and allow it to settle for a few days then add rocks and you can now run the filter and the air pump. Now that the aquarium is ready you can now put your fish there. Feeding them is another part of pet care. Fish food that can be purchased commercially should be approved by the vet. And you should also carefully read the back label first before you feed it to your fish. Fish shouldn’t be fed just about anything that you think you like. They have a special need that’s why it’s best to consult the vet first.

All in all pet care is a big responsibility because another life is in our hands. But you are not alone. You have your veterinarians that can help you and can give the best answers to your questions.

If you are a pet owner, then for sure by now you know that you have to have a certain number things to keep your beloved pet well cared for and happy. However; do you have absolutely everything that you need? For instance, if you are a dog or cat owner then you should have a first aid and health maintenance kit at the ready at all times.

Basic Health Needs

Vet bills have skyrocketed over the last decade, to the point that a trip to the vet can be comparable in cost to a trip to a doctors office. This is only more reason to have all that you need to tend to your animals basic health needs. The first thing that you might consider putting on your list, is some basic nutritional supplements for your pet, so you can rest assured that it is getting all of its vitamins and minerals.

Worm Medicine

Next, you should have flea and tick medicine at the ready. Sprinkle some in your pets bedding every now and then, so you can head off major outbreaks before they happen. A once a month worm treatment is also highly recommended and this is particularly true if your pet is coming into contact with other animals.

Sensitive Skin

Also, many breeds of dogs and cats have skin that is susceptible to rashes. To prevent this problem, you will need proper skin medication and special soap if your pet is one of these breeds. It is also advisable to keep some topical antibiotic cream or serum on hand, so any cuts that your pet gets don’t turn into major infections that will require a trip to the vet.

Bargain Online Sources

Right now the best place to find all of these and other pet care products is online. Sure, your local pet store has some of what you need, but they just won’t have the broad selection that you will find with todays online sources. Also, due to their high overhead expenses, you are going to have to pay more for your pet care products at your local pet store.

Pet owners are rightfully worried about spraying their lawns with any number of toxic chemicals which can pose significant health risks for not only their pets but family members as well. However, there is actually very little reason to be worried at all as you will find out. There is only a small chance that improper pesticide or herbicide application will pose a health risk, and that small chance is entirely negated with proper application. With proper usage, all lawn care products are pet safe, although you can purchase specifically natural pet safe lawn care products. Either way, you’ll be protecting your pets which can be like family to you.

Proper Application and Pet Safe

As previously mentioned, commercial lawn care products are almost entirely safe when applied correctly. The problem really arises under two conditions. Firstly, volatile chemicals can release toxic gases over time, and many pesticides and herbicides include volatile chemicals for their sheer strength. Fortunately, liquid pet safe lawn care products allow you to specifically target problem areas in your yard, so you aren’t forced to spray the entire thing, severely reducing the amount of chemicals that you need to use in the first place. Also, proper application will only use a small amount of chemicals in a given area, so the pet safe lawn care products won’t be concentrated enough to release enough toxic fumes to harm humans or pets. The second risk comes from spraying toys like tennis balls. Lawn care products sprayed on toys can remain toxic for weeks, so you’ll want to remove any toys from the yard before spraying.

If you want the marketed pet safe lawn care products, then there are a number of substances which still get the job done without any harmful side effects. Naturally occurring bacteria can be implanted into your yard. For example, beneficial nematodes attack insect larvae by injecting them with toxins, and then they eat the dead larvae. When all the larvae are consumed, the nematodes die off themselves, so you are left with absolutely no harmful substances in your lawn. Your job is completely done, and you don’t need to dirty your hands at all.

You can also use essential oils derived from garlic, citrus oil, and pepper extracts to combat many problems facing your lawn. Completely natural and completely safe, you won’t need to worry about any harmful side effects from these products. Remember: with proper application and keeping toys out of the way, all lawn care products are safe to use with pets around. However, the only surefire way to protect your pets is to purchase pet safe lawn care products, so any mistakes on your part won’t make you or your pets sick.

Great Pet Care on a budget â?? Part II, Why do you want a pet?

First, ask yourself â??Why do I want a pet?â? and be honest about your answer. Maybe itâ??s to have a companion to help from being lonely or maybe itâ??s for protection. Did you grow up in an environment where there were pets around? Did you have them when you were a child? Or maybe you seen someone else with a pet that you admired and you decided that was the right pet for you?

The answers are limitless but whatever the reason you have to have a willingness to care for the animal through thick and thin and not when itâ??s small new, and cute. Getting a pet on a whim is never a good idea. You need to be ready for all the activities that go along with pet ownership including:

Daily feeding

Walking and exercise

Cage cleaning

Routine veterinary checkups, pet insurance, etc

Grooming

Training

Many moreâ?¦

Owning a pet requires a lot of time and effort if it is to be done correctly but unfortunately most people donâ??t realize this until the animal is home and after awhile the owner becomes overwhelmed.Â

So when you decide that you are ready for pet care and you are ready to move forward. Be honest with yourself, take your time and look around for the pet thatâ??s right for you.Â
